Long, wide, flat beach with firm sand 100 metres away. Easy walking for miles up and down the beach, often to yourself. A walk North up the beach with wellies (provided) or jandals, crossing 2 shallow streams and back through Granity village takes an hour.
Granity has a good cafe with a small shop for essentials; pizza/fish & chip shop; giftshop; rockshop; and a pub. No petrol: nearest South in Westport 30kms and North in Karamea 65 kms away.
North to Karamea with caves to explore and the start of the Heaphy track is beautiful,
Or drive South 20 mins to Westport, then 10 mins more to the airport and the golf course, then 5mins more to Cape Foulwind, the seal colony and the award-winning Cafe on Tauranga Bay. Another 20 mins to Charleston, old goldtown and the Nile River caves with adventure boat-trip and glowworms. Yet another 30 mins and you're at the famous Punakaiki pancake rocks and blowholes!
