The heating is extremely efficient with a log burner on wet back (heating the water) and can also be used for fire top cooking. The log construction creates high insulation value and has under floor and ceiling insulation.

Set on 4006sqm (approx one acre) of land covered in manuka and regenerating beech and totara forest. 25 eucalyptus trees have been planted for firewood plus there is a 10sqm shed for storing all those bits and pieces. Water is sourced from the mountain spring.

De Kikker Vijver is well established as holiday accommodation. Current owners block the days they wish to use their chalet prior to renting it out.

Mt Lyford is a destination in itself and is centrally located only 1 3/4hr from Christchurch, 55 minutes to Kaikoura and 50 minutes to Hanmer Springs.
