The use of agricultural silos as accommodation units has created huge interest since their establishment in 2014. The 8 two-storey silo units, along with a single-storey accessible unit, are superbly crafted inside with industrial style cutting edge décor. This is supported by a self-contained on-site eco-friendly wastewater treatment system, use of used handbasin water to fill toilet cisterns, and an excellent pellet boiler which provides potable hot water for bathroom and kitchen use, as well as a very efficient heating system in the silo units. Guests staying for the first time are pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the silo units. As part of the offering to guests, a Tesla charging portal is provided on site to charge Tesla vehicles travelling on Banks Peninsula.
Silo Stay has established itself as a standalone profitable business, with annual revenue and profitability continuing to grow over the six years that our Vendors have operated the business. While there are no on-site accommodation options for an owner or Manager, there are adjacent and local options available. There is also an established local cleaning team in place.
Silo Stay is located on 1,050 m2 of land adjacent to the renowned Little River Café and Gallery. The location is in the centre of Little River, a popular stopover point for those travelling from Christchurch to Akaroa and the Eastern Bays of Banks Peninsula. Returning traffic also passes here, offering two opportunities for attracting vehicle and bicycle-borne occupants. Little River is at the eastern end of the popular Christchurch to Little River Rail Trail, used as a cycling and walking trail, which follows the route of the former Little River railway line, which closed in 1962. Little River has a population of approximately 1,000, many of whom commute to Christchurch for work, but prefer to live in the peaceful surroundings of this delightful town. Little River is an excellent staging point for day trips to Akaroa, the bays of Banks Peninsula, ocean visits (e.g. Birdlings Flat), lakes (Wairewa and Waihora), and plenty of tantalising walks.
