1131 Whakarau Road, Otoko, Gisborne

Set privately capturing an elevated outlook over the Waikohu River, 1131 Whakarau Road delivers the complete rural lifestyle package — now fully renovated, meticulously improved and ready to enjoy. Just 50km from Gisborne and 20km from Te Karaka, this exceptional 20-hectare property offers space, privacy and income in one of the region’s most scenic settings.
The six-bedroom homestead has been comprehensively refurbished, blending character with modern comfort. Featuring a new open-plan kitchen with scullery, two living areas, two bathrooms, new carpet, full repaint, and partial replumbing, the home is warm and inviting year-round. Elevated and surrounded by landscaped grounds which enjoy sweeping views across the Waikohu River, multiple deck areas are ideal for outdoor living.
Complementing the homestead is a three-bedroom cottage, a rustic shearers’ quarters primed for improvement and Airbnb or farm-stay potential, and substantial infrastructure including a large workshop, multi-bay implement sheds, covered sheep yards, cattle yards and a four-stand woolshed with extensive covered space ideal for conversions to a contractors base or machinery storage.
Well subdivided with near-new fencing and currently supporting approximately 32 R2 heifers annually, the property balances modest productivity with lifestyle. Swimming holes in the river, riverbank bush for hunting, and proximity to the renowned Matawai and Motu recreational areas make this a playground as much as a farm.
A rare opportunity to secure a renovated homestead, multiple dwellings and serious infrastructure in a private and elevated riverfront setting — offering lifestyle, income and long-term value in equal measure.
