189 Puketui Valley Road, Hikuai, Thames-Coromandel

Earthship Te Timatanga “New Beginnings” is one of New Zealand's most celebrated examples of sustainable architecture. A pioneering home that reimagines what modern living can be. This extraordinary Coromandel property was conceived not simply as a house, but as a complete living system, designed to work in harmony with nature while providing exceptional comfort, beauty and self-sufficiency.

Positioned on a north-facing terrace in the beautiful Puketui Valley, the Earthship grants commanding views of the Pinnacles and Coromandel Ranges. Built according to Earthship principles, the four-bedroom residence combines natural and recycled materials, passive solar design and innovative water and energy systems to create a home that is both deeply practical and profoundly inspiring.

The home's north-facing orientation maximises solar gain, drawing winter sunlight deep into the living spaces through expansive glazing. This warmth is captured by the substantial thermal mass of the earth-filled walls, which slowly absorb, store and release heat over time. The result is a highly effective natural climate control, creating stable, comfortable interior temperatures throughout the seasons.

A lush indoor growing corridor forms a living connection between spaces, bringing light, greenery and life into the daily experience of the house. This is architecture with a story, where every surface reflects creativity, purpose and a commitment to building sustainably.

For those seeking more than just another beautiful home, Te Timatanga offers something far rarer: a compelling vision of how the future of living might look.
