About Emma

Passionate about property and people.I began my career as a property lawyer in 2000 and bring a deep understanding of real estate, backed by decades of hands-on experience across property investment, ownership, development, and sales.

Since moving to Nelson in 2009, my husband and I have re-opened and operated the local icon McCashin’s Brewery, raised three children (alongside six chooks, three dogs, six goats and three lambs), and completed three renovations, multiple build projects, and several subdivisions. This real-world experience allows me to offer practical, grounded advice that goes well beyond theory.

I combine strategic marketing, strong negotiation skills, and clear, upfront advice to help my clients achieve the best possible outcome. Each property is marketed with a tailored approach designed to attract the right buyers, create competition, and maximise value. My legal background and calm negotiating style are particularly valuable when deals become complex, conditions tighten, or problems need solving.

I take a hands-on, solutions-focused approach and often bring creative, out-of-the-box ideas drawn from real-world experience. I’m known for being down-to-earth, approachable, and having a good sense of humour — qualities that help put people at ease during what can be a stressful process.

I work closely with out-of-town owners and older vendors, regularly assisting with organising tradies, coordinating pre-sale work, and managing the many moving parts involved in preparing a property for market. My goal is to make the process as smooth, supported, and stress-free as possible.

In the office, I’m affectionately known as “DEFIB” (short for defibrillator) — because even when a deal looks flatlined, I don’t give up. I’ll work hard to revive it, and often do.

Give me a call — I’d love to hear from you.

How I help:

·  Strategic marketing, not templatesI design tailored marketing campaigns that position each property to attract the right buyers, create genuine competition, and maximise value — rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

·  Strong, calm negotiationWith a background in property law, I’m skilled at navigating complex negotiations, conditions, and contracts, always protecting my clients’ interests while keeping deals alive and moving forward.

·  Clear, honest advice from day oneFrom pricing and method of sale through to timing and presentation, I provide practical, upfront guidance so clients can make confident, informed decisions.

·  Hands-on support to prepare your property for marketI regularly assist with organising tradies, coordinating pre-sale work, and managing the details — particularly for out-of-town owners or older vendors who want extra support.

·  Solutions when challenges ariseWhen things don’t go to plan (and sometimes they don’t), I focus on problem-solving, creative thinking, and finding workable solutions rather than walking away.

·  A calm, approachable presenceI understand property decisions are both financial and emotional. I’m down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and known for putting people at ease throughout the process.
